Director, IT & Systems Operations

SUMMARY

The Director of Information Technology Systems & Operations is a hands-on-leadership role responsible for providing a broad range of IT Operations services, support and solutions to the organization, ensuring enterprise standards are met and business objectives achieved. The Director  leads the department in developing strategy and short- and long-term goals to align with company strategy and goals.  As part of the Engineering Leadership Team, ensures collaboration on all infrastructure-related goals to ensure optimal performance and metrics in the company’s users with IT communication and IT infrastructure and systems.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Works with Leadership team to develop an overall information technology strategy, specific to the company’s core infrastructure and systems, leveraging best practices applications, software and system platforms.
  • Responsible for the implementation and maintenance of ITIL / ITSM processes and best practices across the company.
  • Participates in prioritization of technology initiatives and accurately track the status, costs, and all projects related to information systems (hosting, vendor agreements, training, systems, etc.).
  • Establishes and maintains the initiative vision, strategy and program to ensure information assets and technologies are adequately protected.
  • Responsible for all Information Technology security aspects of the organizations information technology and systems, including policies, standards, and oversight of security operations.
  • Recommend and execute the design architecture of internal infrastructure; and maintain peripheral information system equipment and developing schedules for equipment usage.
  • Oversee the IT Operations support team, and coach and develops department manager.
  • Provides company strategy and execution as it relates to operational processes and technology needs.
  • Evaluates new IT products or services recommending changes to existing products or services for improved end user and Company practices.
  • Leads the management of business operations with the overall goal in improving user and company efficiency.
  • Ensures effective working relationships with vendors and third party providers, ensuring contracts are kept up to date and cost maintenance strategies are assessed and analyzed on a periodic basis.
  • Recommends appropriate maintenance strategies ensuring uninterrupted systems usage and proper backup and recovery procedures.
  • Leads and directs the management of overall system security ensuring adherence to data security, backups, disaster recovery, and privacy for both hosted and internal systems (Information Security Framework Inclusive of PCI requirements).
  • Responsible for the development of the annual department budget and capital expenditure plans in alignment with department projects and business goals.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Department of IT Professionals with Manager-level direct reports.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s Degree in math / computer science / engineering or science discipline is required.  Masters Degree or certifications desirable.
  • 10+ years demonstrated experience managing IT personnel and proven ability to coach and develop
  • 10+ years of professional experience in the field of Information Technology and Infrastructure

  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal and able to effectively operate with all levels of the organization
  • Strong ability to understand client expectations and to resolve issues that may affect delivery
  • A hands-on, participative, leadership style that encourages creative problem solving.
  • Must have advanced knowledge of IT infrastructure; hardware/software
  • Must have strong analytical and problem solving skills and keen attention to detail.
  • Must exhibit strong desire to learn and understand the company’s operations and business needs.
  • Working knowledge of project management principles, organization, and follow-through skills.
  • Able to adapt quickly to shifting priorities and timelines.
  • Able to maintain a sense of urgency, sustained drive and high level of energy.
  • Must have strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook).
  • Up to date on emerging trends, and desire to learn new technologies.
